bIOGRAPHY FOR RICK PAULSEN
Since
1981 I have been fortunate to have designed lighting for well over 200
theatrical productions. I make my home in Seattle and my work
has
been
seen at nearly all of that city's major performing arts institutions
and
at many theatres across the country including Arizona Theatre Company,
the Denver Center, The Goodman Theatre, Milwaukee Rep, the Guthrie Lab,
the Cleveland Playhouse, Kansas City Rep, San Jose Rep, Childsplay, the
Oregon Shakespearean Festival, Portland Center Stage, GEVA Theatre and
the Wildwood Festival. My lighting has also been represented on
the tours of The Gospel
at Colonus, Inspecting
Carol and Addy:
An American Girl Story. The staging
of new works for the theatre is an area I have a keen interest
in; I count myself lucky to have been
involved with numerous world
premieres by playwrights such as Steven Dietz, John Pielemeier, Jon Klein, Doris
Baisley, John Olive and William Mastrosimone. As a teacher, I
served as an instructor at Cornish College of the Arts
from 1984-1990 and as a Lecturer at the University of Washington School
of Drama from 1990-1993. For several years I have been a
Trustee
on the Western Regional Executive Board for United Scenic
Artists local
#829. I have degrees from the University of Northern Iowa and
the University of Washington School of Drama.
